I wouldn’t say this is realistic fiction, but it isn’t fantasy, either. This was one of my favourite books when I was 8. It is about siblings Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, who learn that their parents have been killed in a fire and that they are orphans. With a colossal fortune waiting for them when Violet, the oldest, comes of age, the Baudelaires are relentlessly chased by their first guardian, a villain, murderer and arsonist, Count Olaf. This is certainly not a happy series and had quite a few deaths. It is fun to read because it is very suspenseful. I loved this book but would not recommend it to kids who get scared easily. There is also a Netflix series by the same name. I recommend that children of nine years of age and above watch this, preferably after finishing the books.
