^The Hatmakers is a story set in a world with a magical family for every job. For example, Hatmakers make hats that can do specific things, like increase concentration or cure stage fright. Cordelia is only a young girl when she learns her father got lost in the sea. Cordelia is determined to find her father and believes he is still alive. On top of this, France is threatening war with England, and the British king has been acting very unusually. Cordelia must pursue any leads that will return her father to her. I liked that Cordelia is full of hope and believes that her father is still alive, despite what everyone else says. I disliked that the book was not written in Cordelia's voice.
