The Shark and The Scar

Sarah Moore Fitzgerald

Jay is a French boy who wakes up one day in the hospital. He is told that he has suffered a horrible accident, but he doesn't remember any details. His father refuses to talk about the incident and insists Jay covers up his scar. After Jay recovers, they suddenly move to Ireland. Jay suspects there is more to the story than what his father is telling him. He befriends a girl named Jess, and together they discover the secrets that Jay's family has been hiding from him. The book covers the themes of friendship and love. It is told from both the perspectives of Jay and Jess. This book was written by Sarah Moore Fitzgerald, who I recently discovered. Many of you would not have heard of her. I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 9 as this book isn’t necessarily too scary or grim. I have read another book of hers titled “The Apple Tart of Hope”, which is reviewed in the 13+ category.
