Boy at The Back of the Class

Joining a new school is never easy, but for a young refugee named Ahmet, it is even harder. He needs to learn English for the first time, and the children at the new school are less than kind. The book is written in the voice of a young girl who is one of Ahmet's classmates. She is the first to befriend him. Brendan-the-bully is particularly mean to Ahmet. The story is a narration of how Ahmet deals with these challenges. This is a good book for younger children, maybe age 8 and up. I did find the style of writing a little irritating since the name of the narrator is not revealed for a while in the book. This is, however, a beautiful story of friendship and kindness and introduces kids to the topic of refugees.
